What is Relate for Young People?

Children and young people's counselling is for any young person who is having problems. Young people come to Relate with issues from depression and mental health problems to issues with their parents or people at school. Coming to see a Relate counsellor helps because they are independent from school and home life.

What can I expect?

You can talk in private about your experiences and feelings with a specially trained Relate counsellor, safely and without embarrassment. Sometimes it is hard to talk to those closest to you, particularly if they are tied up with their own problems. Counselling gives you the opportunity to talk to someone about your feelings and concerns and helps you to find ways to manage them. You can be sure that what you tell our counsellor remains confidential unless we are worried for your safety or the safety of others.

How can it help?

Children and young peoples counselling can help young people find new ways of dealing with problems, concentrate in school and get on better with family members or friends.  It can help young people cope with and overcome the issues and pressures they are experiencing in a safe environment.

Who can see a young peoples counsellor?

Our Counsellors work with any young person aged 11 - 18 or child aged 5 to 11. Parents can make appointments on behalf of their child.  We ask for a contribution of £55 for each appointment. We do offer some school-based sessions and have some limited subsidised counselling available for families on low incomes.
